Empowering Young People With Lifesaving Skills This Summer

Duty Crew Training Partners With Hartley Wintney Parish Council

This summer, Duty Crew Training is proud to launch a brand‑new community initiative in collaboration with Hartley Wintney Parish Council, a series of practical, confidence‑building First Aid Sessions for young people aged 14–18.

Designed specifically for teenagers, these sessions focus on real‑world skills, hands‑on learning, and the kind of calm, capable decision‑making that can make all the difference in an emergency. Whether it’s knowing how to recognise when something is wrong, how to call for help, or how to step in safely, these sessions give young people the tools to act with confidence.

Why This Matters

Young people are often the first on the scene when something goes wrong, at school, in sports, out with friends, or at home. Yet many have never had the chance to learn even the basics of first aid.

This collaboration aims to change that.

By offering accessible, engaging, and age‑appropriate training during the summer holidays, we’re helping young people build skills that stay with them for life. It’s about empowerment, resilience, and giving them the confidence to step forward rather than freeze.

What the Sessions Cover

Each three‑hour session blends practical demonstrations with scenario‑based activities, ensuring young people learn by doing. Topics include:

  • Understanding basic first aid principles
  • Recognising an emergency and calling for help
  • The recovery position
  • Hands‑only CPR
  • Safe use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
  • Choking management
  • Practical scenarios to build confidence and teamwork

Attendance only - not a certified course.

The focus is on building capability, not pressure, a supportive environment where young people can ask questions, practise skills, and leave feeling genuinely prepared.

When and Where

All sessions take place at the Lucy Pygott Centre, 11:00–14:00 on:

  • Tuesday 28th July
  • Tuesday 4th August
  • Thursday 13th August

Places are limited to 10 participants per session to ensure high‑quality, hands‑on learning.

A Community Collaboration With Purpose

This initiative reflects the shared commitment of Duty Crew Training and Hartley Wintney Parish Council to invest in young people and strengthen community resilience. By working together, we’re creating opportunities for local teenagers to gain essential life skills in a supportive, engaging environment.

How to Book

Booking is required, and spaces are expected to fill quickly.

Book your place: https://www.hartleywintney-pc.gov.uk/council_events/free-youth-first-aid-courses-ages-14-18/

If you know a young person who would benefit from learning these vital skills, encourage them to book early and secure their place.

Building a Safer, More Confident Community

We’re excited to welcome young people from across the parish and beyond.

These sessions are more than just training, they’re an investment in the next generation of confident, capable first responders within our community.

We look forward to seeing you this summer.
